Abstract
The RF acoustic filter industry has experienced a golden age over the past decade, driven by explosive growth in mobile communications and the proliferation of frequency bands in modern devices. However, as we approach a post-golden age era, the industry faces significant challenges and transformative opportunities. This presentation examines the future prospects of RF acoustic filters beyond the current maturity phase, analyzing technological bottlenecks, market saturation pressures, and emerging application spaces that will drive the next wave of innovation. Key challenges include the commoditization of standard filters, increasing performance demands for 5G Advanced and 6G systems, and the need for disruptive technologies to break through fundamental physical limitations. We will explore emerging research directions such as heterogeneous integration approaches, novel materials systems beyond conventional piezoelectrics, and advanced packaging solutions that enable new filter architectures. The presentation will also address the evolving landscape of intellectual property, supply chain dynamics, and the increasing importance of sustainability in manufacturing processes. Additionally, we will discuss how artificial intelligence and machine learning are transforming filter design methodologies and optimization approaches, potentially democratizing access to high-performance filter technologies for smaller players.
